Dear Charlie

Dear Charlie,

We never met. We never shook hands. And well I never got to see or hear you in real life. But, many times I listened to what you had to say (although I will admit I had to mute you on X) and witness through a screen you try to have others be more apart of the political process and fighting for what it means to be an American. No denying you made a mark on my generation (I’m 36) and many other generations. You were able to do the unthinkable—tirelessly show up and debate fair amongst the general public. Only a few can do this and yet it felt like you were training us no matter if we agreed with you or not. Training us to speak our minds and have healthy dialogue no matter if that ended with disagreement.

Here I sit thinking about what you’ve been able to achieve and how your legacy is bright and continues all thanks to God. I sit here at my desk writing this thinking about you set out and did what God called you to do. You were obedient and gave all the glory to God. You did the hard work and tried to the best of your ability to fulfill what God designed and had on your life.  But, man I’m sad because there was so much more you had for us and the world.

Between me and you God has called me to build a Bible notes app that I believe and know will help bring more light in dark places. I’ve only begun but what happened to you has me fired up to do more and work even harder. To think what God can do in one day and how patient He is with us in helping fulfill His plans has me needing to do more.

Again, thank you for your hard work and I’m sorry you left us the way you did.

Until I see you in Heaven,
Derek
