Anytime someone asks what I do I just say “I make websites.” Well earlier today I found myself making rectangles during an impromptu design session
The challenge was to design a screen in 15 minutes with minimal knowledge of “product design”.
There I was in the same Figma file with a designer I looked up when I was just getting into digital design along with two designers who’d say they make interfaces. I’d poke around to see what they were doing. But then I just took my iPhone screen sized frame and started making rectangles.
Where they yinged, I yanyed. The screen we were exploring was for a photo and video app that needs a customize-to-share screen. The yinged is I think what you’d expect from a photo and video app. Nothing wrong with this. But I thought... what if instead of giving a user all these options to add different text, stickers, and effects you just picked a pre-designed theme.
This is where I yanged.
I had fun in a field of design I don’t have a lot of experience just figuring things out one rectangle at a time.
